What website management?
Getting a website up online is easy and only takes a few minutes, you’ve seen the ads your self right, 5 minutes and your done.
But is It more than that?
So how do you manage your website? Well you just hire a website management service. BUT A better question yet who is managing your website management service ?
Let me answer the first question. Yes there should be more to a website than just a design, a certain look or even SEO. These are important factors that should be looked at but you first should consider what you want out of a website.
Now I work with websites all day and even more important is that I talk to business owners of all types. They all have different Ideas and views on what they want from their website. Things like!
- I think I should have a website because my competition has one
- It’s the thing to do nowdays
- I want to get more work or business
- A website will help me start a work at home business
Now don’t get me wrong with what I said earlier about other management companies trying to sell you on SEO. All of the above are of course valid reasons , the point being these reasons are not really for everyone.
Yes there are several reasons for a website, along with these there are no wrong or right reasons. The problem is that the website management company should spent some time with the business owner explaining the differences in those many uses and help them find a use that best fits their business needs.
OK so on to the answer for the second question. You should hire a website management service to manage your website. I say this for the same reason that if you have a business that makes a product and you enjoy making the product, then I would strongly suggest hiring some one for heading up your sales. Why should you take away from what you like to do, and most importantly what probably makes you more money with your time. Let me share with you what a friend of mine did some years back with a car lot he wanted. Joe was really great at going to the car auctions and shopping around for deals on used cars. Trust me when I tell you this guy knew his cars, he could almost tell you the history just by looking under the hood and sitting inside those things. But one thing Joe knew was he hated to sell them, and talking to customers on a sales level was not for him. So being the smart business person he was, he hired someone who knew little about buying cars but loved talking to people about cars and working with car finances. SO you get the point here, a great match for both of them.
So when I say that you should hire someone to manage your website you understand what I mean. But that’s not to say that you should not just walk away and let them do whatever they recommend. Treat your website management just as you the business owner would treat or manage any other part of your business. Ask questions, get a clear understanding about what It is that you want your website to accomplish. Then when your sure about the direction that you’re wanting to go with your online venture, ask your web management business to present you with their strategy and plans to get your business heading in the right direction.
When you know little or nothing about how the Internet works?
When you started your business you most likely had a business plan. Well your website management service should have that same type of plan or strategy for your website. When you decided on starting your business somewhere at some point you had some kind of ideas on what you wanted your business to do, yes I’m sure like all of us the general Idea was to make money. But you didn’t just open your door in a strange town with a cash register on a counter somewhere and expect people to walk in and leave money. The picture of that concept sounds great but let’s face It, life is not quite so simple.
Find a website management service that will ask you about your online needs, then spend some time planning with them and get your site up and running.
